Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

Our staff of Te Kura Whakangungu Kaiako | School of Teacher Education are looking for a new colleague to join a vibrant and well-established early childhood whānau.

This position is a full-time and continuing (i.e., permanent) position. The position will be appointed at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. The role will contribute to teaching and research within the early childhood programmes.

Mōu | Who You Are

Applicants should have a research focus and teaching experience in areas that align with the needs of Te Kura Whakangungu Kaiako | School of Teacher Education such as being Te Tiriti o Waitangi conversant and culturally responsive.

The person appointed to this position must meet the following requirements:

  • Demonstrates relevant experience within early childhood contexts
  • Confidence in working with local iwi and rūnanga together with an active commitment to upholding values, tikanga, kawa and traditions
  • Competence and confidence in using te reo Māori
  • An understanding of effective teaching methods that are relevant to early childhood education within Aotearoa|New Zealand contexts
  • Experience in teaching at a tertiary level/experience in teacher education, and/or mentoring teachers, and/or leading professional learning for teachers or other adults
  • Ability to integrate digital technologies into course design and teaching
  • Evidence of an emerging or established record of research success with capacity to grow as a research leader
  • Demonstrate a commitment to culturally responsive and collaborative teaching, as this is a strong part of the ethos in the School of Teacher Education
  • Current New Zealand Teaching Council certification to enable visits to students on placement.

The following are preferred qualities of applicants:

  • Applicants at the Senior Lecturer levels should have a record of supervision of Master's and/or doctoral students.


Please note that as the role is based in Christchurch; applicants would be ready, willing and able to teach at Christchurch campus and visit students in the Canterbury region.


Mātauranga | Education

  • Doctoral degree is desirable or applicants must be prepared to enrol in doctoral studies within six months of the appointment
