Duties for this role will include:

  • Certifying and designing electronic security system installations;
  • Traveling to key stakeholders for user requirements and evaluations;
  • Developing project specifications;
  • Testing and evaluating security products and bespoke designs;
  • Advising on NZDF and NZ industry standard requirements around security requirements; and
  • Providing creative soltuions to support NZDF Security Requirements.

You will have a extensive background in technical security including the operation, installation, testing, evaluation and maintenance requirements, preferably within a government or commercial environment.

A key aspect of this role is interacting with key stakeholders, so excellent interpersonal skills is a must to build strong and trusted relationships across all levels of the organisation, with an ability to influence and push back as required to ensure best practices are always followed.


Ideally you will also have:

  • Relevant qualification or certifications, including:
  • Electrical Service Technical Certificate or equivalent;
  • Gallagher Technician Certification;
  • Risk assessment qualification (preferred but not essential).
  • Effective and professional communication skills, both written and verbal, including ability to review and amend documentation;
  • Hands on experience with installing intruder detection, electronic access control and CCTV security systems;
  • A comprehensive knowledge of relevant NZ industry standards and codes of practice;
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills with a strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise workload efficiently; and

Please note:

The successful applicant will require the ability to travel at short notice domestically for short periods of time, as well as potentially travel international.

The Directorate of Defence Security (DDS) provides a sustainable and credible security organisation primarily focussed on NZDF's domestic security environment through the provision of a range of protective security policies, services, products and advice.

DDS's purpose is to protect the NZDF from security threats, vulnerabilities and risks that could cause harm to our people, information and capabilities.

DDS comprises of Counter Intelligence, Security Delivery, Security Strategy and Risk, Security Guard Force and Chief of Staff functions.

Collectively, these functions work across multiple facets of the NZDF to shape, develop and implement security capability that protects what is important to the Defence Force.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance
- most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
