Te Whatu Ora-Health New Zealand and Te Aka Whai Ora-Māori Health Authority will together shape the delivery of health services in Aotearoa for generations to come and will form the core of a modern and integrated service looking after the needs of all our whānau.

Te Whatu Ora is 'the weaving of wellness'. Whatu is the combining together of people, resources, organisations, thoughts and actions for the betterment and wellbeing of all.

Whatu is also a direct reference to the pupil of the eye, and the vision required of the new entity and system.

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

As a key member of our Data & Digital leadership team and reporting into the Chief, Data & Digital, you will play a crucial role in delivering equitable outcomes through innovative and effective digital solutions.

Your focus on customer service, collaboration, and improving systems and services will have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of all New Zealanders.

Your primary focus is to work in partnership with colleagues in Te Aka Whai Ora and across Te Whatu Ora to deliver priorities, ensuring the Sector-wide Digital Channels team contributes effectively to all aspects of Te Whatu Ora and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action, a commitment to action on equity and making a difference.


Key deliverables will include:

  • Lead the delivery and support of sectorwide digital channels, consumer products, and platforms
  • Collaborate with localities, healthcare professionals, and key specialisations to create an integrated digital landscape
  • Ensure a strong foundation for digital channels and consumer products to support innovation and digital transformation
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure that external consumer channels and services are accessible and usable for all communities
  • Ensure digital infrastructure enables equity and all external channels and services are inclusive, userfriendly, and accessible nationwide.

As an experienced ICT leader, you will have a strong understanding of the technology landscape and be able to bring new ideas and best practices to the team.

You will have the ability to lead and motivate a team of professionals, as well as the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.

With your strong communication and problem-solving skills, you will be able to translate complex technical concepts and ideas into clear and actionable plans that drive your team's success.

  • Substantial proven experience leading high performing teams to deliver customer facing services within large and complex organisations
  • Product roadmap development and financial management experience
  • Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills (internal and external)
  • Committed to biculturalism and equitable outcomes for Māori
  • Proven ability to lead teams through change with improved results
  • Strategic thinking and commitment to ongoing development
  • Strong business acumen and technologysavvy
  • Excellent communication skills for all types of stakeholders
  • Driven and responsible
  • Significant experience at an executive level of Data & Digital delivery within large public facing multifaceted or complex environments with multiple consumer and political interests and expectations, ideally within Health
  • Politically sensitive environment experience
  • Confidential/secure environment experience with access to sensitive information.

  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a willingness to learn and grow.
