About the role:


Reporting into the Head of Marketing and Communications and leading a team of three, your initial focus in this role will be to drive the development and implementation of an innovative communications strategy.

Leadership is at the heart of this role, you will provide support and development for your team through setting clear and consistent standards, development and empowerment while building commitment and trust to build a high performing, effective team.


Other Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the preparation and implementation of project communication and engagement plans and strategies
  • Develop and deliver internal communications strategy that engages and inform our 500+ staff
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to ensure Council initiatives have a supporting, communications, and engagement plan
  • Support the management of the Council's community engagement activities
  • Monitor community reaction to communications on public channels, working closely with the Head of Marketing and Communications, Marketing Manager and Digital Marketing Manager
  • Support the management of media and public relations
  • Significantly contribute to a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, passion, and purpose.

About you:

  • Proven extensive experience in a communications manager or lead role
  • Experience within a medium to large multidisciplinary and complex organisation experience working in a local/ central government environment and/ or experience from a communitybased organisation and involved in communityled initiatives would be advantageous
  • Strong understanding of full marketing mix, with specific experience in communications initiatives (internal and external)
  • Ability to establish a position as a trusted advisor
  • Proven demonstration of strategic agility
  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively and leading organisational and cultural change initiatives
  • Proven ability in leading teams to achieve organisational goals/objectives within a valuesbased framework
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately for a range of audiences and adapt style accordingly
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
