The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

We have a permanent, part-time (0.6FTE) opportunity available to join our Prevention team as a Public Health Medicine Specialist, this role is critical in enabling the delivery of the NPHSstrategic agenda for Pae Ora(Healthy Futures).

The Public Health Medicine Specialist is responsible for providing public health medicine leadership and technical support for the on-going quality, monitoring and evaluation of the screening programmes. You will provide public health medicine and applied epidemiological advice and leadership across the screening programmes.

The preferred working location for this role is Auckland or Wellington.

  • Expertise in Public Health Medicine
  • Vocational registration with either the New Zealand College of Public Health Medicine or the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine
  • An annual practising certificate with the New Zealand Medical Council
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in monitoring and evaluation of population health programmes
  • You will be able to demonstrate extensive specialised experience normally gained through professional qualifications and significant post graduate experience
  • Previous public sector and health sector experience
  • The ability to work in complex organizations and with diverse stakeholders
  • A commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner in all your actions. This includes an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the ability to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in this role
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
