The University of Otago, Wellington (UOW) provides health research and teaching in New Zealand's capital city.

It enjoys collaborative relationships with District Health Boards, local health service providers, multiple central and local government agencies such as the Ministry of Health and Wellington City Council, as well as other tertiary education providers such as Massey and Victoria University.

It also has strong links with local iwi.


The Department of Public Health at the University of Otago, Wellington offers an undergraduate fourth year medical student module and a flexible range of postgraduate study programmes on-campus in Newtown, Wellington.

This position will help in both our Housing and Cities research programmes, which have expanded considerably recently.

_The role/Te mahi_


In this role you will work as a statistician at the level of Research Fellow for He Kāinga Oranga/Housing and Health Research Programme, and the NZ Centre for Sustainable Cities in the Department of Public Health.


You will support the development and use of IDI (Integrated Data Infrastructure) datasets and contribute to the research activities of He Kāinga Oranga and the NZ Centre for Sustainable Cities.

Two main current projects are looking at the effect of housing on former rough sleepers through Housing First, and the impact of the Healthy Housing Initiatives.

  • Phd in a related topic.
  • A background in Statistics or similar discipline.
  • Ability to work productively with a team.
  • Cultural Competency.
  • Experience in the IDI environment.
  • Experience of Housing Research in New Zealand.

There are two full-time (1.0FTE), fixed term positions available until September 2025, located in Wellington.

The salary range for this position ranges from $87,152 to $103,550 per annum.
