Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time
Are you an administrative and secretarial all-rounder with experience working with senior leadership and looking for the next step in your career?

  • Do you thrive on variety and want to be part of a busy, friendly team focused on New Zealand's response to emergencies?
  • Do you bring a level of critical thinking and a flexible approach to your everyday work?

We're looking for someone to join the Chief Executive's office to support a coordinated approach to NEMA's work programmes and to provide secretariat support to the Emergency Services Leadership Board.

This role offers the opportunity to develop your skills through general support to both the CE's office and the wider organisation.

Ko wai mātou | About us
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides national leadership to New Zealand's distributed emergency management system.

NEMA's primary focus is on the performance and capability of the emergency management system as a whole, across all hazards and all risks and the 4 Rs of risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery.

We are going through an exciting phase of growth and there will be more opportunities with NEMA over the coming months.

NEMA values diversity and inclusion. We want our workforce to reflect the diversity of our communities. We value and respect the contributions of our people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, skills and perspectives. We support flexible ways of working that bring out the best in you.

We are committed to doing our part to deliver on the Crown's commitments to Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

We strive to actively build te Ao Māori perspectives and capability into our day to day work, values and practices.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

In this role you will be supporting the Strategic Programme Director to maintain an overarching view of NEMA's work programmes across business units, including resource allocation and alignment with NEMA's strategic direction.

You will fulfil a variety of tasks, including providing coordination, administrative and secretariat support to the Emergency Services Leadership Board (ESLB) and its work programme.

You will work within NEMA and in collaboration with other agencies to support the advancement of NEMA's work programmes and you will contribute to supporting the wider business by assisting with tasks as part of the Office of the Chief Executive.

The position sits with the Office of the Chief Executive which is responsible for NEMA's strategy management, the oversight and direction of workstreams, and for maintaining a relationship with the Minister of Emergency Management.

Working for NEMA comes with some additional rewarding activities aligned to your skill set.

In the event of a national emergency response, such as the current response to Cyclone Gabrielle, there will be a requirement for all employees to provide rostered support.

This may involve responding to events outside of normal working hours if an emergency response of national significance occurs.

An emergency response of national significance allows you and your colleagues to experience working as a cohesive team, at pace, often in an environment of ambiguity, in the heart of the National Emergency Crisis Centre.
