Our name, Te Arawhiti, means 'the bridge'.

This name symbolises the bridge between Māori and the Crown, the past, the present and the future, and the journey from grievance to true Treaty partnership.


Our vision is to realise the promise of te Tiriti o Waitangi/ the Treaty of Waitangi for all New Zealanders.


We are a small but dynamic and impactful organisation, working to support iwi to reach their Treaty settlements, build public sector capability, safeguard the durability of Treaty settlements and work with other agencies to deliver for Māori.


Mō te tīma/About our Te Kāhui Whakatau teams


Teams within Te Kāhui Whakatau work with iwi Māori to resolve historical grievances by negotiating fair and durable Treaty of Waitangi settlements.

These settlements include historical, cultural, financial and commercial redress that provide a foundation for strengthening the Māori Crown relationship into the future.


Working within a small team gives you greater opportunity to be seen, be heard, and make a real difference to restoring, sustaining, and building the Māori Crown relationship each and every day.

You will also be developing skills and experience that are in demand right now.

Te āhuatanga a te tūranga/ About the roles
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the Māori-Crown relationship.

In these roles, you will provide high quality advice on a range of matters from a Māori-Crown relationship perspective, participate in settlement negotiations with our iwi partners, and work with other Crown agencies to develop settlement packages.


Through work in these roles you will:

  • Provide advice to senior leadership, Ministers, and Cabinet
  • Work with Chief Crown Negotiators and negotiations teams to develop and negotiate historical Treaty settlement packages
  • Build strong relationships with Māori, other Crown agencies, and local authorities

He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience

To be successful in these roles you will:

  • Bring knowledge and awareness of Te Ao Māori, Te Reo Māori me onā tikanga, me te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi
  • Be highly motivated and take ownership of your work
  • Be comfortable working with and relating to a wide range of people
  • Have welldeveloped written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of the machinery of government
  • Have a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for Analyst (level one) positions will be between $63,066 and $81,133 based on skills and experience.

The appointing salary for Analyst (level two) positions will be between $81,128 and $104,720 based on skills and experience.
