About the teams you will be working with

Oranga Tamariki social work teams work across a range of locations and service areas including providing services to children and families to address harm and wellbeing concerns, support for young people who offend and their victims and providing support to caregivers and tamariki who are in care.

Each region has a network of people with specific roles and functions to support our social work teams as they carry out this work.

The Regional Māori Practice Coach is one of these roles.

About the role | Mō te tūnga

Reporting to the Regional Manager, this role will be responsible for providing guidance to regions and sites, leading the role out of applied takepū principles, processes, methodologies while we work towards creating quality practice for tamariki and whanau Māori as the Regional Maori Practice Coaches.

Using your applied practice skills and matauranga Maori, your networks, you will help to build strong working partnerships with iwi, NGO's, Māori communities and other key stakeholders, creating opportunities to develop tailored work programmes and responsive practices for tamariki Māori and their whānau.

Promoting a collaborative approach, you will enable the contributions of kaimahi to engage in the pursuit of oranga and provide credible practice guidance underpinned by Te Ao Māori principles, Te Toka Tumoana and aligned to our Māori cultural framework as we work to establish best practice moving forward.

Critical to this this role will be your strategic experience in collating and analysing data to help us gain insights to create, refine and develop, both engagement approaches and practices founded in te reo me ōna tikanga Māori.

As well as contributing to the development of practice in your own region and communities, as part of a national collective of Regional Māori Practice Coaches, working closely with and supported by the Pouarataki and wider PPG team, you will contribute to ongoing national practice changes and improvements.

  • Proven ability to engage and manage stakeholder relationships
  • Being a conceptual thinker who can translate our aspirations for Māori into appropriate engagement into practice delivery
  • Indepth understanding about the position of Māori today in Aotearoa and issues of equity and inequality for Māori impacting on the tamariki and whanau we serve
  • Knowledge and experience of Māori approaches within a social services practice context and or statutory setting
  • Proven experience and expertise with tikanga Māori
  • Ability to use clear and professional written and verbal communication
  • A pragmatic and solutions focused approach to providing sound advice to leadership to help make informed decisions
  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant experience (this is essential)
  • Ability to meet SWRB registration or equivalent of Section 13 (SWRB)
