About the role


There is an opportunity for you to join our team as Senior Partnerships Advisor - Maori reporting to Manager - Principal Engagement Maori based within our Iwi and Community workgroup.

The Senior Partnerships Advisor - Maori will support the Manager

  • Principal Engagement Maori and the National Partnerships team to establish and maintain effective relationships with community leaders, understand and translate the needs of the community for better policing policy and outcomes and build trust and confidence between the community and NZ Police;


The Senior Partnerships Advisor - Maori will also play an integral role in building effective relationships and working in partnership with District staff, including responsiveness and liaison managers and advisers, to facilitate and support the implementation and delivery of strategies and initiatives that enable the delivery of Our Business with the community.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Engage and consult with community leaders to understand their issues and needs from a Policing perspective and to seek input and feedback on strategy and policy development.
  • Coordinate and facilitate communications and meetings between NZ police and community leaders and manage consultation processes to achieve community input into Iwi & Community and Police strategies and initiatives
  • Provide timely advice and support to District staff on appropriate responses, approaches and policing services for the portfolio and how to manage culturally complex and sensitive issues
  • Coach and mentor district staff as required in understanding and dealing with complex cultural issues and responding to Māori issues and needs.
  • Promotes and role models teamwork, service, Māori responsiveness, community partnerships, and continuous improvement.

  • It is advantageous for you to have a good level of knowledge and fluency in reo Maori
  • Part of our work is engaging directly with and supporting our communities, this may require shared flexibility to work evenings and on weekends if required
