Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
The Biosecurity Support Officer will need the flexibility to adapt and develop as the environment evolves and will be required to deliver results in the following areas

  • Travel Bookings
  • Processing invoices and ordering goods
  • Assisting with other Operational Support functions as required
The position is 8.00am - 4.30pm in office, Monday - Friday.

You will need to be professional, well-spoken, organized and comfortable dealing with a wide range of people.

  • Experience in a reception or administrative role in a corporate office environment
  • A drive to deliver an exceptional customer experience in every interaction
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels including with the public
  • A high level of organizational skills, the ability to deliver on time and solve problems as they arise.

We are a small team who enjoy engaging with internal and external stakeholders. The team all work from the Christchurch based office.

Our mahi supports and enables Biosecurity New Zealand to protect our borders to keep pests and diseases out of New Zealand.


The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) partners with New Zealand's food and fibre sector to be the world's most sustainable provider of high-value food and primary products.

Biosecurity New Zealand is part of the Ministry for Primary Industries and is focused on:

  • stopping pests and diseases at the border before they get to New Zealand
- eradicating or managing the impact of those already here

Biosecurity New Zealand provides the operational focus and direction to ensure Aotearoa has the right resources and people-power to protect our country from biosecurity threats.

New Zealand has a complex and effective biosecurity system to support our unique environment and the relatively few pests and diseases that threaten our economy.

New Zealand's biosecurity system has 3 interlocking layers of protection - pre-border, border and post-border. From regulations to inspections and surveillance, our robust system helps prevent new threats from establishing in Aotearoa.

This system involves:

  • Trade and bilateral agreements
  • International plant and animal health standards
  • Risk assessment and import health standards
  • Border intervention
  • Readiness and response
  • Surveillance
  • Pest and diseases management
