Job Summary

We are recruiting a registered nurse to work as a Medical Case manager with our Healix team, based in Auckland NZ.


The role has several functions:
the provision of a Monday-Sunday 08: depending on time of year) nursing service responding to the medical advisory demands of Healix's clients; review of all new and ongoing medical cases and provision of medical advice as necessary; liaison with assistance co-ordinators to ensure patients receive the highest standard of medical care under the terms of their insurance policy; provision of medical advice with regards to repatriation requirements; provision of medical advice directly to Medical Helpline clients; management of government employees based overseas and management of airline crew health services whilst away from their base.

Key responsibilites include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform initial telephone medical assessment with treating medical team (or review initial written medical report)
  • Take first call and initial case details for non insured individuals, airline crew members and other specific clients
  • Formulate a plan of care with a non insured individual (i.e.

airline crew member):

identifying when a medical assessment is necessary, arranging medical provider, providing guarantee of payment for foreign providers, and liaising with individuals and employers as required.


  • Monitor ongoing cases prioritising according to: medical need, local facilities, age of patient and cost of care and reassesses at appropriate intervals
  • Negotiate with treating medical team and assistance coordinator to ensure that medical expenses guaranteed are within the terms of the relevant insurance policy
  • Recognise potential cases at risk from deterioration and ensure appropriate measures are in place to manage ongoing care
  • Notify duty doctor and Operations Manager of very sick, very young/old, pregnant patients and cases requiring high cost care in order that management of cases may be escalated
  • Recognise when workload becomes unmanageable and effectively utilise available resources to ensure continuity of case management
  • Utilise all resources available in order to establish accurately a patient's medical condition and repatriation requirements

For us to consider you, you have to demonstrate that you take professional accountability for your own practice and decisions made and adhere to the NZ Council of Nursing.

You need to be in possession of a current Annual Practicing Certificate.
