About the role:


The Product Owner is responsible for translating the Product Managers' strategies to tasks for development, managing and prioritising the product backlog, organising sprints, understanding the market and customer needs, and answering questions from developers as needed.


This mahi involves working with Product Managers to learn about what problems they are aiming to solve with the product, what customer needs or desires have informed their product strategy, and what the team will view as product success.


Key Deliverables - You'll**:

  • Translate the product managers' product vision and overall strategy and understanding the market, the users, and the business goals in order to create a clear direction for the product
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, customers, and the development team to gather requirements, refine and prioritise backlog items, and ensure that the most valuable items are at the top
  • Collaborate with the development team during sprint planning to determine which backlog items will be worked on during the next sprint
  • Throughout the sprint, clarify requirements, provide feedback and answer questions, and ensure that the team has a shared understanding of what needs to be built and that the product is meeting the intended goals
  • Continuously monitor the market, user feedback, and changing business needs to adapt the product backlog and adjust the product direction as necessary to ensure the product is continuously evolving and delivering value
  • Facilitate relevant agile ceremonies and rituals: Backlog Refinement, Daily Standup, Sprint / Release Planning, Showcases / Sprint Review, Retrospective

About you - you'll have:

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline
  • Product owner certifications (e.g. Certified Scrum Product Owner, SAFe Product Owner Certification, Professional Scrum Product Owner, Certified Agile Product Manager)
  • Proven experience with product management principles and practices including product planning, roadmap development, prioritisation, and agile methodologies
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies, such as Agile or Scrum
  • Strong prioritisation skills to determine the most valuable features to develop and ensure that the team is working on the right tasks at the right time. Decisiveness and the ability to handle ambiguity
  • A supportive, collaborative approach and the ability to get messages across using the appropriate method to suit the audience
  • Ability to build relationships, manage expectations, and ensure alignment with business goals
  • Ability to understand and use basic Te Reo Māori phrases, mihi and greetings and understanding of Māori values, culture and tikanga (or willingness to learn)
