About the Role
Attention all talented and motivated estimators We have an exciting opportunity for an Estimator in our Infrastructure Northern Business Unit

We are seeking a dynamic and highly organised individual to join our team as an Estimator.

This role requires an individual with a deep understanding of electrical systems and construction methodologies and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

The Estimator must be able to effectively gather and analyse data, prepare accurate and reliable cost estimates, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

The ability to work well under pressure, prioritise tasks, and meet tight deadlines is critical for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifying opportunities to submit bids and contributing to the decision on whether to bid for the work
  • Development of bid strategy and value engineering/innovation options
  • Analysing project plans and specifications to determine the scope of work for electrical systems and components
  • Carrying out risk assessments for bids/tenders
  • Carrying out measuring, takeoffs and estimates for a range of electrical construction projects
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for electrical systems and components, including labour, materials, plant & equipment, subcontractors and overhead costs
  • Work with crossdisciplined teams and other stakeholders to resolve questions or issues related to cost estimates
  • Attend prebid meetings and site visits to gather additional information and assess project requirements
  • Develop and maintain cost databases, including pricing information for materials, labour, and equipment
  • Review and validate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Participate in project reviews, providing input on cost implications of design and construction decisions
  • Preparing and presenting bid presentations
  • Improving client satisfaction, ensuring existing clients are retained, and the client base grows
  • Carry out estimating reviews following project completion
  • Preparing handover meetings and documentation for project delivery teams
  • Building relationships with new and existing clients
  • Setting a personal example on all matters of health and safety, influencing good practice and a strong HSE culture across the business, working towards highly effective worker participation practices
  • Understanding and implementing the company health and safety policy and taking reasonable care of own health and safety and the health and safety of others
  • Complying and cooperating with any reasonable instruction, policy or procedure by the company to allow the company to comply with their duties and obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Ensuring appropriate personal training/competence to carry out the prescribed task and that the necessary licenses/certificates of competence are current and appropriate
  • Ensuring the appropriate plant and equipment to carry out the prescribed task is available and safe to operate and taking personal care of plant and equipment to maintain its safe to operate condition
  • Ensuring that all guards/barriers are securely fixed and that all safety equipment and personal protective clothing/equipment provided are used
  • Reporting any events/incidents as soon as reasonably practical and stopping work, and reporting concerns to the immediate supervisor if there are concerns for personal safety
  • Ensuring no personal interference with any safety device occurs without the appropriate company approval
  • Setting a personal example on all matters of health and safety and participating in Perimeter/BU worker participation practices

4. JOB COMPLEXITY

  • Sound understanding of New Zealand's Electrical Standards and Regulations and design processes
  • Sound understanding of construction methods, materials, and equipment
  • Ability to think outside the box and develop unique solutions to a problem
  • Ability to effectively manage their time and prioritise tasks, as they are often working on multiple projects concurrently. They must be able to meet tight deadlines and deliver accurate and reliable cost estimates
  • Work requires adhering to both flexible schedules, particularly with respect to larger tenders
  • Time management across a broad range of functions to meet tender closing dates or customer deadlines
