The Waikato public health service is seeking a fully qualified Public Health Physician from August 2023 with a view to undertake the statutory duties and responsibilities of a designated Medical Officer of Health.

You will provide advice and guidance around the delivery of a cohesive, effective, and equitable health system to ensure better health outcomes for the population.

This is a challenging and rewarding role within the dynamic Public Health clinical team, based in Kirikiriroa (Hamilton) and covering a Waikato population of 500,000.

This is a beautiful part of the country ideal for those who enjoy outdoor activities, close to East and West coast beaches and all the highlights of the central North Island of Aotearoa.

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:

A vocationally registered public health physician with the NZ Medical Council

Competent in integrating Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori health models and frameworks into practice

The ability to be courageous and be willing to challenge the status quo in a professional manner

The ability to see possibilities, potential and tangible opportunities to create an outstanding and integrated health system

High levels of emotional intelligence, communication, and interpersonal skills as well as an ability to bring people together toward common goals
