Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the Role


The Event Specialist is responsible for organising and/or supporting Ara's corporate, recruitment, staff, and department events across its campuses and providing cross-institutional support for other events that occur, which include sponsorship events and those staged by the departments or Ara's executive (Te Kāhui Manukura - "TKM").


The Event Specialist will be expected to project manage, consult, and collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation and deliver events to a high standard aimed at enhancing Ara's reputation as a leader of applied tertiary education and integral to Canterbury's future.


Professional Profile
Requires project management skills for organising and delivering successful events in a timely fashion and within budget.

Exuding a positive and flexible attitude, this person will enjoy working with others in a proactive and dynamic team to achieve and exceed event expectations.

They will bring events to life incorporating the latest trends and event innovations, keen to keep recurring events refreshed.

They will have a proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

The role will involve a high degree of autonomy, project management, consultation, and collaboration.

The key function of the role is raising Ara's brand profile and delivering campaigns to support student recruitment, including to existing students to further study.

With a strong emphasis on customer service, a "can and will do" attitude, this person will value the contributions of others and demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering Ara's vision and values.

  • Experience in working collaboratively as part of a team.
  • 25 years' experience in an events management environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in customer service.
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Ability to prioritise workload with a proven ability to successfully handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work cross functionally in an organisational context.
  • Manage budgets.
  • Is customer focused.
  • Ability to create targeted event solutions to appeal and engage specific market groups.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of event initiatives.
  • Be proactive and dynamic to achieve and exceed expectations.
  • Skilled at relationship management with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to assess and manage risks.
  • Able to manage conflicting demands.
