Immigration New Zealand is the operational delivery arm of the immigration system

Our core functions are:

  • Ensuring that people crossing the border and staying in New Zealand are entitled to do so.
  • Helping refugees to make New Zealand their home.
  • Playing our part in the global immigration system.
In this role, you will interpret legislation and use proven analysis, judgement, and decision-making to make informed immigration decisions.


Our full training and support programme is comprehensive and focused on supporting staff to be confident in all they do.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Experience or an attraction to an administrative /processing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven expertise conveying concepts, and information clearly and concisely.
  • A strong moral compass, and be known to 'act with integrity' in all you undertake.

To be eligible for this role, you will be a New Zealand citizenship or hold a New Zealand Permanent Resident class visa.
MBIE offers a range of flexible working options. Work your hours

  • Standard full, Monday to Friday between 6am 6pm (training period will be within the hours of 8.30am 5pm).
  • Part time hours, Monday to Friday between 9am 2:30pm (training will take place between 9am
  • 2.30pm).
  • Alternative full time, Monday to Friday between 12pm 8pm (training will take place between 12pm8pm).


Part time hours will suit those looking to stay in the workforce on reduced hours, support your own flexible needs with competing home and work requirements.

Training is completed on site and will take approx. three months.

Once fully competent in your role you can discuss flexible working options with your manager, such as working part of the week, from home.
