Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity Do you have a big picture strategy mindset? Do you have an interest in shaping planning delivery using investment as the vehicle? Bring your specialist and expert advice to help translate Government Direction, Waka Kotahi strategy, and regional transport plans into deliverable investment programmes.

You will help with the Investment Planning team's guidance on how to achieve the best returns for New Zealand while understanding how the investment contributes to the long-term performance of outcomes the transport system.

You will bring an ability to identify risks and opportunities that transport contributes to the broader sector. The role will require working across Waka Kotahi and with external stakeholders to influence investment outcomes.

Providing advice to shape and develop the investment planning function, including the development of key Waka Kotahi investment planning documents and collateral; with 3-, 10-, and 30- year horizons.

You may be currently working in an Advisor level role, and have gained the skills and experience required, and be ready to step up to a Senior level role.

Ko koe tēnei | About you As an accomplished communicator, you will be able to navigate stakeholders, facilitate meetings, workshops, or other forums with ease.

You will have a keen understanding of both New Zealand's planning framework and the role investment plays to deliver transport outcomes.

In addition, to be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • An understanding of the New Zealand transport system and its policy, investment, planning and regulatory framework
  • An understanding of the planning and funding framework of local and central government and the related investment decisionmaking processes
  • Critical thinking abilities to generate insights from a variety of policy and data sources
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical performance data into insights and findings to be consumed by nontechnical audiences
  • Flexibility, adaptability with the ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Experience with working at senior levels and other government agencies.
