Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the Role


The primary purpose of this role is to support the Ara community build, maintain, and optimise the presence and voice of ākonga groups, clubs, and opportunities for connection across all Ara campuses.

There will a particular focus on the supporting Ara's priority learner groups (Māori, Pacific, Disabled), alongside International; and in supporting the larger‐scale social connection opportunities for the wider learner body.

Alongside specific and focus group activations and connections, this role works across the wider Ākonga Success Division, including the Student Life Team and Student Advisor space, and Events and Engagement to further grow and support wider‐reaching student‐led initiatives and activations.

This aspect of the role is to further enrich, grow, and foster a culture of connection, belonging, and togetherness across our campuses.

This work is reflective of our purpose and values, the Education (Pastoral Code of Tertiary & International Leaders) Code of Practice 2021, and other related student frameworks and initiatives that contribute toward enhancing the learner experiences across all Ara campuses.


Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako - Skills/Experience

  • Engaging with the community to enhance student groups, clubs and student‐led initiatives.
  • Work across the campuses to encourage and develop opportunities for social connection and a culture of belonging.
  • Promote group initiatives, events, and related materials as required.
  • Work cooperatively and collegially to resolve problems, create solutions and initiate improvements.
  • Participate in People and Culture processes (e.g., Orientation, Induction, Professional Development and Valuable Conversations).
  • Work across Student Support, Engagement, and the Student Life Team to facilitate and support wider group connection activations and events across the student community.
  • Assist with the development, planning, and delivery of key student engagement events as required across the year, including Priority Learner Focus Groups, Orientation Week, cultural celebrations, and awareness activations.
  • Maintain thorough records and documents of group related activity.
  • Work innovatively and developmentally to enhance the overall impact and reach of groups, new and existing.
  • Communication skills including group facilitation, leadership, and coaching.
  • Experience in events planning, delivery, and/or on‐site activation.
