We have a permanent opportunity in our Governance team for a Governance & Privacy Officer to support the effective management of governance and corporate oversight across all Suncorp New Zealand entities.

You will also act as Privacy Officer for Suncorp New Zealand Employees Limited, Vero Insurance New Zealand Limited and Asteron Life Limited.


Success in this role means working collaboratively across the organisation ensuring governance and corporate oversight, and compliance with privacy regulations, are optimised within each of our business entities and the Chief Risk Office team operates effectively in its deliverables.


What you'll do:

  • Act as Privacy Officer for Suncorp New Zealand Employees Limited, Vero Insurance New Zealand Limited and Asteron Life Limited, fulfilling all legal obligations including liaising with the Officer of the Privacy Commissioner.
  • Provide pragmatic and commercially focused advice to the businesses on privacy compliance matters, changes in the internal and external environment, regulatory change and business initiatives and projects as they relate to privacy matters.
  • Work with the Compliance, Regulatory and Assurance team to monitor and advise on the implications of privacy regulatory change for relevant SNZ entities, including the updating of privacy compliance obligations.
  • Support the Governance team in providing advice, guidance, oversight and challenge to the New Zealand businesses in all matters pertaining to governance and risk appetite.
  • Partner across the Risk Job family and within the CRO team to ensure harmonisation and consistency in risk management approach and process across Suncorp New Zealand and the broader Suncorp Insurance function.

What you'll bring:

  • Previous Privacy experience is essential.
  • Background in legal, risk or compliance management in the financial services sector is highly desirable.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of insurance risk management and control processes and tools.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively negotiate, facilitate and influence while preserving and strengthening relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound advice, guidance, oversight, and challenge to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ability to convey and explain information, succinctly and clearly, for both oral and written communication including delivering training and acting as a delegate when required.
  • High level of attention to detail and organisational skills.
