The Patient Blood Management (PBM) service at Waikato Hospital is looking for an experienced, highly motivated senior nurse to fill this Speciality Clinical Nurse (SCN) role.

The SCN focus will be on supporting and enhancing patient outcomes by improving patients' medical and surgical management in ways that boost and conserve the patients' own blood.

A large component of the SCN role is provide ongoing education and support to staff; ensuring they are responsible in their use of blood products, and to patients; helping them to optimise their health and manage individual needs.

Waikato Hospital's PBM team is comprised of a small multidisciplinary group of enthusiastic specialists committed to use of evidence-based research and practice to improve patient outcomes.

The team has a Clinical Lead, Anaesthetists, a Clinical Nurse Coordinator and Speciality Clinical Nurses.

Recently, the addition of a Clinical Nurse Specialist for Intravenous Immunoglobulin therapy has been employed as part of a pilot project.

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:

Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand; inclusive of scope of practice

A current practising certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand

Clinical experience with administration of blood and blood products

Expected to have met expert level of practice on the Professional Development and Recognition Programme, but may achieve a higher level of practice

Completed a postgraduate qualification

Involved in research, teaching and innovation that has changed clinical practice

Ability to conduct audits, write reports and update policies/procedures

Experience in or ability to learn how to maintain the hospital intranet website
