The opportunity


Our Risk and Assurance team have an exciting opportunity for an experienced risk practitioner to join team as a Senior Risk Advisor.

This is an exciting role where you will be a key contributor in helping to create a culture of professional risk management within Council.


You will have the opportunity to lead the delivery of risk management activities throughout the organisation, working across a number of business units and key groups including senior managers and other important stakeholders.

Additionally, you will be responsible for leading risk management in some key projects and programmes including facilitating workshops for the identification, assessment and reporting of key risks and controls.


You will liaise with risk partners across the Auckland Council group and facilitate the identification and management of group level risks.

You will provide regular reports to relevant stakeholders including the Audit and Risk Committee and Executive lead team members.

You will have the opportunity to influence across the organisation to drive high performance and best practice in risk management.

About you


You are knowledgeable in risk management at an intermediate/senior level and at least 3 years experience working in a large organisation.

You can explain Risk management in 30 seconds or less and, if asked, give a 5-minute presentation on the topic as well.

Degree qualified and almost certainly an affiliated member of a Risk organisation, you have proven experience in a large organisation working with stakeholders at all levels and are adept at putting customers at ease with your knowledge of risk management.


Alongside sound knowledge of risk management methods, processes and procedures and experience in evaluation, problem solving, planning and policy development, you will also be familiar with AS/NZ ISO 31000.

You are confident to have courageous/ brave conversations with senior leaders to challenge and support evolving risk management practices.

You thrive on working with ambiguity, learning, prioritising, and adapting to the changing risk landscape.


You would also be able to independently lead, influence and support strategic change projects working with Council group whanau to serve Auckland in the best possible manner.
