Ko wai mātou - About Us

At Manatū Hauora - Ministry of Health we are the kaitiaki of the health system, providing leadership and driving strategy and performance.

We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters.

Our mahi ensures New Zealanders are cared for by a health system that is innovative, future focussed and world leading.

The National Drug Intelligence Bureau (NDIB) is a multi-agency strategic intelligence unit, comprised of representatives from the New Zealand Customs Service, the Ministry of Health and New Zealand Police.

The NDIB's purpose is to be a critical partner in New Zealand's effort to prevent and reduce drug related harm.

The mission is to provide strategic intelligence and advice on illicit drugs, potentially illicit drugs and precursors in order for drug related harm to be reduced through supply control and demand reduction measures.

Provide advice and support to the work of both the NDIB and Mental Health and Addiction Group within Manatū Hauora.

This position is seconded full-time into the NDIB, which is housed within the Fusion Centre, but also includes supporting work on key programmes within the Mental Health and Addiction Group at the Ministry of Health.

The position may also be allocated to other programmes as government, Ministry and NDIB strategies and priorities change.
This position will report to the Manager, Mental Health and Addiction Policy with supervision from the Intelligence Supervisor, NDIB.

It will also require working closely with key stakeholders in Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) and Te Aka Whai Ora (Māori Health Authority).

In this role, some of your key tasks will include building strong relationships across the health sector, leading international and national drug reporting, preparing strategic intelligence assessments and providing high quality strategic advice to Ministers, senior officials, and other stakeholders with accurate and clear communications.
