About the NDIB
An exciting opportunity exists to work within the National Drug Intelligence Bureau (NDIB).

The NDIB is hosted by the National Intelligence Centre (NIC) at Police National Headquarters and is a multi-agency workgroup comprising of representatives from the New Zealand Police, New Zealand Customs Service and Manatū Hauora (Ministry of Health).

Our purpose is to understand New Zealand's illicit drug environment and provide strategic intelligence and advice to support the reduction of drug related harm.


DIANZ aims to reduce harm caused by illicit drug use through the provision of public health notifications and alerts, education, and harm reduction messaging.


About the roles

Key Accountabilities:

  • Proactively identify and analyse emerging or escalating trends relating to illicit drugs and associated harm.
  • Demonstrate strengths in problem solving, critical thinking and using initiative to drive positive outcomes.
  • Produce nationally standardised intelligence products and contribute to the core intelligence reporting and deliverables of the unit.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver a high standard of written reports that are clear and concise.
  • Confident providing verbal briefings and presentations to a range of audiences.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work effectively with people from a range of backgrounds.
  • Display commitment to quality and continuous improvement in skills and ability.
  • Manage competing priorities and demands to deliver timely, relevant, and influential Intelligence.

Special Requirements

  • The successful applicant must reside in Wellington.
  • Hold the NZ Diploma in Intelligence Analysis (NZDIA) or equivalent or able to complete NZDIA modules early in employment.
  • Able to obtain and maintain an appropriate national security clearance
