Fund Manager

  • Partner with Aotearoa New Zealand NGOs to deliver international humanitarian assistance.
  • Contribute to the New Zealand Government's response to offshore disasters.
  • Manage a portfolio of disaster response activities.
Lead the Ministry's engagement with Aotearoa New Zealand NGOs that are involved in international humanitarian action.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role


As our New Zealand Disaster Response Partnership (NZDRP) Fund Manager, you'll manage the Ministry's mechanism for partnering with NGOs that deliver protection and assistance to communities in need of humanitarian assistance offshore.

This is a varied role in which you will:

  • Administer each NZDRP contestable funding round.
  • Manage NZDRP activities through the activity lifecycle.
  • Develop and manage our humanitarian relationships with NZDRP partner NGOs and the Council for International Development.
  • Advise Ministry decision makers on NZDRP allocations and delivery, portfolio insights, and policy guidelines.
  • Engage in periodic knowledge sharing and collective learning opportunities with NGO partners.

The full salary range for this role is $85,118 and $115,160 total remuneration, inclusive of our 3% KiwiSaver employer contribution.

We expect to appoint around the midpoint of $100,13- give or take depending on your level of experience.

We'd like to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:

  • Minimum three years of experience managing projects in the Humanitarian and/or International Development sector, or three plus years of experience managing a comparable fund in a different sector.
  • Knowledge of the key aspects of grant and/or project management.
  • Well developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Solid numeracy skills and proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Sound analytical skills, with an ability to track and analyse portfolio performance and benefits.


Ideally you will also have a good understanding of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), with the ability to weave te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) into your work.

If you are just starting on this journey that's OK too - as long as you have a willingness to learn and a desire to develop your cultural capability.

To undertake any Ministry offshore travel it is a requirement that the staff member (and any accompanying family member) meet the health requirements for that country, including having the required up to date vaccinations relative to the intended destination as required for the health clearance by the Ministry's health provider.
