Job Description:

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role
Do you enjoy realising value to customers? Love collaborating with people to get things done? Are you a pro at articulating the technical to a non-technical audience? Well all right then, this could be the mahi for you

You will play a key role in taking the Data experience to new heights with your advocacy and influencing skills by bridging the gap between customer-centric data products, enhancing the experience of a scaling data platform, and exploring opportunities of what could be possible to elevate the experience of data in the business


The connections you establish with other products owners and the business, coupled with your ability to engage with both technical and non-technical audiences, will enable the squad to deliver compelling outcomes for Contact Energy and its customers.

If we had to put the technical product owners purpose into a sentence it would be. "to elevate the Data Experience, and support squads by providing them with focus and clarity"

Here's a glimpse of how that translates into the key activities of the Technical Product Owner role:

  • Champion strategic priorities by coaching other areas of the business to get the most out of the Data Platform, in accordance with best practices of Data
  • Drive, maintain, and grow user adoption of the Data Products by seeking out opportunities in the business to elevate the data experience by introducing best practice for data product use and deployment using analytics at Contact
  • Develop a strong understanding of business practices and procedures to help identify future opportunities where Data & Analytics can add value
  • Nurture a feedback loop that continuously improves and innovates on the experience people have with Data Products by influencing an integrated functional backlog together with the other Product Owners
  • Support the squads you'll work with during the discovery process by translating high level business outcomes into high level designs and meaningful delivery outcomes while ensuring data best practices and patterns

What you'll bring:

  • A customer and valuecentric focus
  • Significant data analysis experience to guide your decisionmaking
  • Data modelling and data solution design experience to support high level data designs
  • Demonstrated ability to have constructive conversations with the business and technical teams on requirements and processes to deliver fitforpurpose solutions to the business and its customers
  • An aptitude for engaging with a variety of stakeholders across the business, with an ability to communicate complex information in a simple and efficient manner to a diverse audience.
  • Writes and speaks persuasively, analysing and summarising the key issues.
  • Ability to see the big picture, understand the key stakeholders needs, and facilitate clarity for the squad and stakeholders
  • Experience using a range of metrics to monitor the success and health of products and services
  • Understanding of the New Zealand electricity and gas markets would be advantageous
  • At least 5 years working in a similar role and/or relevant qualification, e.g ICP-Business Value Analysis [ICAgile], CSPO certification [Scrum Alliance], Data Solution Architect, Data Technical Leads, Principal Analysts, or proven experience supporting the business on realizing delivery outcomes
