Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:


As the Business Director, you will be joining the Corporate Services, Finance and Enablement group at an exciting time as we look to embed new ways of working and improve the service delivery for our stakeholders.

In this newly established group, reporting to the Head of the Office of the Deputy Secretary, you will play a key role coordinating group input into MBIE governance and accountability, planning, budgeting and reporting functions.


As part of this role you will:

  • Manage the group's Ministerial team work on hand, ensuring that the agreed Official Information Act, Privacy Act, and Parliamentary Questions processes are followed and the externally mandated timeframes are met.
  • Coordinate and oversee Corporate Services, Finance and Enablement group input into SOIs, estimates, output plans, annual reports, OIAs, and budget management (in close collaboration with Finance and Planning).
  • Provide business management advisory services for the Corporate Services, Finance and Enablement group including coordinating business group input to planning, policy, performance, reporting, risk management, business continuity planning and continuous improvement processes as required.
  • Work with the Head of the Office of the Deputy Secretary and MBIE's corporate functions to ensure capability, strategy and systems in the group are wellaligned with the rest of MBIE.
  • Lead a team of five skilled and enthusiastic kaimahi (staff).
We are looking for an individual with demonstrated experience in managing OIA requests, written parliamentary questions and privacy requests.

With a focus on continuous improvement, you will identify opportunities for new ways of doing things and improvement of our processes that vastly improve timeliness of standards in this area.

Skills and Experience Required


We are looking for an individual with significant work experience in the public sector in monitoring strategic workplans in a large complex environment.

Further to this you will also demonstrate the following:

  • Significant experience managing official information act requests, written parliamentary questions, and privacy requests
  • Leading, coordinating and overseeing business group input into SOIs, estimates, output plans, annual reports, OIAs, and budget management
  • Problem solving skills with ability to work through complex issues, using in depth analysis in the context of the overall business issues, and the judgement to select and apply/recommend appropriate decisions.
  • Proven ability to successfully build the trust and engagement of senior leaders through personal advocacy, vision, drive and working collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to influence and work through others where direct reporting relationships do not exist and understanding and acceptance of the support elements of the position.


A sound understanding of the machinery of government processes that underpin the operations of the public sector, such as Cabinet and parliamentary processes, accountability, and the performance, reporting and financial management processes and requirements, is also highly desirable.
