He mea tārai e mātou te mātauranga kia rangatira ai, kia mana taurite ai ōna huanga

We work to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes

Our organisation is made up of talented and committed people around Aotearoa, from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.

While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for our ākonga in our education system.

Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga recognises the partnership founded under Te Tiriti o Waitangi between Māori and the Crown.

We are committed to having Te Tiriti o Waitangi at the forefront of our work for and with Māori students, their whānau, hapū and iwi.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

Analysts within the Pay Equity team are responsible for supporting the design and implementation of the end-to-end research process used to assess pay equity claims in the schooling sector.

As a Pay Equity Analyst you will develop your research skills through collecting and analysing primary and secondary data.

This will build a clear picture of the work female dominated claimants and appropriate male-dominated comparators undertake to enable the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to ascertain whether an undervaluation exists.

Working closely with colleagues in the Pay Equity team, union parties and other key stakeholders, you will conduct qualitative interviews with both claimants and comparators, ensure the data is accurately recorded and analyse the resulting transcripts along with remuneration data, job descriptions and collective agreements to present the terms, skills, responsibilities, demands and working conditions of these jobs.

Analysts in the Pay Equity team are also responsible for developing templates and guidance material to be used during the investigation and producing project documentation.

We also offer:

  • Flexible working arrangements where everyone feels valued & supported
  • The ability to purchase extra days leave
  • A range of employee network groups
  • An inclusive environment that encourages your personal cultural competency journey
  • Development and learning, including mentorship programmes and internal secondments
  • Wellness initiatives to support your overall health and wellbeing

Mōhou ake | About you

As an experienced Analyst, you'll be able to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to analyse complex business issues and develop effective solutions.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Previous experience managing the process of gathering, analysing, storing and disseminating detailed information in a userfriendly format
  • Previous experience or knowledge of the Ministry's current work in the Pay Equity space is an advantage
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office packages (eg Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Sound quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, including proven written and data management ability
  • The ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others to deliver outcomes
  • Competency in te reo Māori is an advantage

Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.

To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.

For additional information on the changes we are embarking on, please visit here.

The Pay Equity team is responsible for investigating and settling education sector pay equity claims in accordance with the State Sector Pay Equity Claims Framework and the requirements of the Equal Pay Amendment Act 2020.

Pay equity means that people are paid equally for doing work of equal value.

It acknowledges the value of the skills, responsibilities and demands of workers in female dominate occupations that have suffered from gender-based discrimination because of perceptions and prejudices about the value of "women's work".

This is an opportunity to join a team working collaboratively with schools and kura nationwide, union representatives, and participating comparator organisations, to conduct robust investigations into whether the work of female dominated roles in the schooling sector is undervalued.
