Kaitohutohu Whenua Māori - Advisor Whenua Māori, (Te Tai Hauāuru)

Location - This position will be based in our Te Tai Hauāuru rohe, in either our Nelson, Te Upoko o Te Ika - Porirua, Taranaki or Whanganui office.

Te Puni Kōkiri (Ministry of Māori Development) is a government agency that works across government and with communities to achieve our vision of Thriving Whānau.

To achieve this, we engage with whānau, hapū and iwi, and other cross-agencies within other public sector agencies.

Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity
Whenua Māori Services takes a culturally grounded, holistic, and strengths-based approach to achieving whānau aspirations through whenua.

It puts the wants, needs and aspirations of whānau at the centre of decision-making and processes and supports them to achieve their aspirations.

In particular, the Advisor will support the Team Leader, Principal Advisor and the rest of the regional team to track, monitor and report against Whenua Māori Services milestones and deliverables.

The Advisor will support the Team Leader to provide oversight to the regional team, as well as provide a connection for the Principal Advisor Knowledge Hub Team, to regional insights, intelligence, learning, opportunities, and challenges.

We are looking for people who:

  • Have great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Can work quickly and accurately
  • Can use their own initiative
  • Have some experience in government roles or similar
  • Can work collaboratively and flexibly as the work arises

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have a degree level qualification or extensive work experience
  • Be experienced working in and across teams and providing technical and administrative advice
  • Administrative experience including financial, business, HR knowledge
  • An ability to work with a range of stakeholders with experience, developing status and update reports
  • Basic Te Reo Māori including pronunciation, vocabulary, and structure.
