The concept of Te Mana o Te Wai is central to the Government's Essential Freshwater policies and regulations which came into force on 3 September 2020.

The NPS-FM 2020 intends for tangata whenua to be involved in the management of freshwater, including decision-making processes.

Giving effect to Te Mana o te Wai requires local authorities to actively involve tangata whenua (to the extent they wish to be involved) in freshwater management.

The Ministry's role is to support regional and local government, and tangata whenua, to make the changes required to give effect to the principles of Te Mana o Te Wai in freshwater management (and wider natural resource management processes) to meet the distinct needs of their rohe/area.

Mō tēnei tūrangi mahi | About this role

We are looking for experienced advisors to support our Essential Freshwater programme within our Te Mana o Te Wai Implementation Support directorate.

A good fluency of te Reo Māori and experience engaging with Māori communities, including whānau, hapū and iwi is required.

A significant part of the role includes co-ordinating and supporting national and regional events with our partners and engaging with a wide range of Māori communities and councils.

You'll be a key representative for MfE whilst responding to queries about the programme, working with hapū and iwi to develop new proposals and getting involved in assessing progress reports.

One of the roles calls for experience in fund management to support the administration of funds managed by the Ministry, including the Te Mana o te Wai Fund.

In supporting funds management, you will also work across MfE teams to contribute to the development and implementation of improvements to our funding systems and reporting requirements.

- cultural capability in te ao Māori, including te reo Māori and experience in engaging with Māori communities;
- excellent understanding of how te Titiri o Waitangi impacts on how we work and engage externally with others;
- experience in funds/grant management or event coordination/logistics;
- experience in a busy delivery environment and an understanding of programme and project processes;
- excellent organisation and planning skills to set priorities and achieve deadlines;
- strong communication and relationship management skills - you enjoy engaging with diverse groups;
- a strong customer focus with an exceptional eye for detail;
- a proactive nature within a team environment and a solution focused approach to problem solving.

Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $77,280 up to $93,565 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
