Ue te Hīnātore - The Local Government Branch provides policy advice to Ministers on key strategic policy issues facing the local government sector, and working at the Te Tari Taiwhenua - Department of Internal Affairs (the Department) you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of New Zealanders.

  • Play a key role to help lead mahi that enhances equitable relationships between iwi Māori and local government.
  • Support, facilitate and broker key relationships
  • Help manage the mahi using their project management skills


A key responsibility of the Advisor role will be to support the ongoing implementation and monitoring of Aotearoa Reorua - Bilingual Towns and Cities and Tatai Arongā - the Co-Governance Data Portal, kaupapa Māori mahi that are being delivered across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Other responsibilities include engaging with iwi Māori and local government partners, project planning, and effectively raising awareness for, support and delivery of outcomes for enhancing relationships with Iwi-Māori.


The Advisor will also assist with the programme administration, preparation of papers for Ministerial briefings, responses to Parliamentary Questions, Official Information and Privacy Act requests and other official correspondence.
