Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
The Lead Adviser is responsible for prioritising the local critical histories initiative.
Working within the New Zealand Curriculum & Te Whāriki group the Lead Adviser gives effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi by strengthening partnerships with regions who will work with kura, schools, iwi, hapu and mana whenua to support the successful implementation of Aotearoa New Zealand's histories curriculum.
In this role you will:
- Ensure iwi involvement for a culturally inclusive and representative curriculum.
- Improve equitable outcomes for all ākonga in alignment with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Mōhou ake | About you
We are looking for sharp thinkers with a flair for writing to help the Ministry's curriculum teams provide high quality advice on the Critical Local Histories initiative.
This role will suit people who care about inclusive and equitable teaching and learning and can bring their background experience and skills providing high quality services to ministers to the work of our curriculum teams.
Your personal qualities will include taking pride in producing written work and other forms of communication products of the highest quality every time and having a proven ability to get the job done.
You will be able to work at pace and manage set tasks and projects, but you also will notice pressure points, take the initiative, and act.
In this role you will be expected to have the kind of interpersonal savviness that means you relate well with all kinds of people.
We are looking for people that really understand the diversity of Aotearoa New Zealand and can communicate that through their work programme.
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.
You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
You will also demonstrate:
- An understanding of the education system, including _The New Zealand Curriculum_, _Te Marautanga o Aotearoa_ and _Te Whāriki_.
- Proven ability to establish, build and maintain highly effective working relationships.
- An understanding of the role of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the education sector.
