We are looking for a Building Control Officer for a 6-month fixed term contract due to internal secondment.

About the role:


Working as part of our Building Consenting Unit, you will provide customer service excellence as you facilitate high quality consent outcomes for our customers.

As a professional in the industry, you'll appreciate the variety and complexity of consenting we look after here.

As a Building Control Officer with the Exemptions & Advice Team, your role will include:

  • Providing technical building control advice to both internal and external customers.
  • Receiving, inspecting and compiling site inspection reports in accordance with the territorial authority procedures
  • Accurate and detailed recording of decisions
  • Engaging with our customers, providing consistent technical and procedural advice on the Building Act 2004, Building Regulations and building code (including guidance on the principles and purposes of the Act) and Council processes.
  • Adhering to statutory timeframes and achieving KPI's.

About you:

To be successful in this role you will bring with you:

  • A qualification (or part way through a qualification) recognised as being suitable for building officials. See the position description for further details.
  • Preferred but this secondment also has the opportunity to scale this to a support role officer gaining experience in this area to apply.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to cater your style to different audiences to ensure they understand the technical information being conveyed.
  • Great attention to detail and organisation skills as documentation is a key part of our role and a legislative requirement.
  • A good attitude and willingness to learn, while being a positive team player.
