Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time
About Us
Being an island nation, New Zealand's waterways define so much about life here in Aotearoa.

So, it's vital every stretch - from the pristine South Island sounds to the wild West Coast waves - is well monitored and looked after.

At Maritime New Zealand, we're the national regulatory, compliance and response agency that looks after the safety, security and environmental protection of coastal and inland waterways.

The Investigations team supports Maritime NZ's front-line compliance operations and risk-based compliance activities to achieve improved safety outcomes.

It also holds the national investigation portfolio and responds to the most serious and complex of maritime incidents and accidents.

In this capacity, the team is responsible for increasing the Compliance Group's investigation standard and capability through training and mentoring frontline staff and their managers.

About the role

Enforceable Undertakings are a way for a duty holder to voluntarily make a binding agreement with Maritime NZ to take action for any breach they made under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA) as a possible alternative to prosecution.

The purpose of the Case Manager is to manage, administer and monitor the enforceable undertaking process.

This role takes an enforceable undertaking through the entire life-cycle of the process, from the original expression of interest right through until the enforceable terms have been discharged.

The Case Manager also manages the panel, which includes selection and rotation of the managers that consist of the panel and ensuring that each panel member has sufficient briefing to fulfil their role on the panel.

About You

Ideally you will have:

  • A minimum of 3 year's relevant experience including experience in the judicial process, administrative law principles and or restorative justice;
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent possibly in law or with papers in law is also highly desirable;
  • You will have welldeveloped communication skills and the ability to manage a varying and complex workload;
  • Strong client focus with the ability to build rapport and maintain relationships with people across all levels within the organisation;
  • A high degree of self
- motivation, initiative, a positive attitude and a team player;

  • Ability to work in a culturally safe and respectful manner, always being mindful of the cultural diversity of the industry and having regard to Te Ao Māori and Treaty of Waitangi principles.
How to apply
Applications for this role close on Monday 1st May 2023.

Also please note that you must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand to be considered for this role.
