About us | Ko wai mātou

At 41 hectares, Te Rapa is one of Fonterra's largest manufacturing sites and makes enough product to fill 48.5 shipping containers each day Our site produces whole and skim milk, instant whole milk powders along with cream, butter, pure dairy milk fat, cream cheese and frozen cream products.

The Te Rapa factory processes up to 10 million litres of milk per day.

About the opportunity | Te whiwhinga mahi

We have a permanent opportunity for a Food Safety and Quality Specialist to join our Fonterra team at Te Rapa.

Reporting to the Site Food Safety & Quality Manager, you will be responsible for leading and supporting a culture of food safety & quality on our site.

This is done by ensuring robust food safety systems, quality systems and business processes are in place to achieve quality and compliance deliverables.

Through the leadership and coaching provided by this position, supported by expertise regarding interpretation of regulatory, food safety, quality and customer requirements, the plant teams will be empowered to make informed decisions during the manufacture and distribution of products.


The outcome is to provide confidence that Regulatory, Food Safety, Quality, Market & Customer requirements have been correctly interpreted and applied as products move through the value stream, a critical aspect of delivering our overall food safety & quality promise to our customers.


Key accountabilities:

  • Monitors and reports on plant compliance to relevant regulations, food safety, quality and customer standards.
  • Assures the food safety & quality status of the site through inspection and audit.
  • Implements, maintains, and improves the effectiveness of the food safety & quality system.
  • Approves and manages key food safety & quality outcomes.
  • Exception management is proficiently coordinated, including short term corrective actions and longterm effectivity of controls.

An expert at managing your time and different priorities, you'll be able to leverage key relationships within our business units to get results.


Other skills and experience include:

  • Proactive communication and people skills with an ability to interact with team members across different business units.
  • Coaching ability to build capability and understanding of Food Safety and Quality requirements.
  • Great time management skills with a systematic and methodical approach to work on tasks.
  • Experience with managing and coordinating compliance activities.
  • Knowledge and awareness of dynamic risk management; being able to identify and understand food safety risks early on.
  • Have resilience to be able to challenge as required to ensure safe food is manufactured every day.
  • Experience working within Food safety and Quality preferred.
