Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Our work extends across Aotearoa's land, sea and data. It also encompasses Crown property and regulatory areas.

We are guided by the whakataukī 'Whatungarongaro te tangata, toitū te whenua', people come and go, but the land remains.

Our purpose is understanding, developing and caring for whenua (land), moana (sea) and arawai (waterways).

This team of seven are passionate about what they do and the contribution they can make in progressing treaty settlement commitments with iwi, and supporting their goals and aspirations.

Most have joined the team because they feel they can make a real difference as a champion for engagement with external partners and customers, in particular with iwi and Māori.

We work extensively with internal colleagues in our Property Rights, Clearances & Legal teams, often in complex situations and on agreements which require a high level of attention to detail, cross team coordination and facilitating multi layered conversations with stakeholders and partners.

Our team works with Iwi, Post Settlement Treaty Organisations, hapū whānau, other government agencies and local authorities.

He pūkenga tou - Skills & Experience

This is a position where you will be culturally competent, with the ability to engage in Te Reo & Tikanga settings.

You will also have resilience to challenging situations, and high emotional intelligence (EQ), remembering our purpose in line with our Kaupapa.

  • Cultural competence (as above),
  • Ability to collaborate, form partnerships and coordinate with stakeholders,
  • Monitoring and actioning programmes of work,
  • Ability to create and follow processes with high attention to detail,

You will have the chance to:

  • Learn our systems to track and monitor our treaty settlements (using Jira and Confluence).
  • Learn the Treaty Settlement process,
  • Pivot and work flexibly with changing (sometimes challenging) situations,
  • Gain experience working with settlement agreements in conjunction with legislation and our legal team.

Clearly this is a position where you can make a difference in the Treaty Settlement area which can be personally rewarding in terms of your own contribution.
