Te Puni Kōkiri
Te Puni Kōkiri is the Government's principal policy advisor on Māori wellbeing and development.

To perform this role effectively we must exert leadership and influence on the public sector system to support government to have a positive impact on Māori wellbeing outcomes and intergenerational transformation.


Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity


As Director Housing you will lead delivery of three critical functions within the Māori housing kaupapa at Te Puni Kōkiri.


The scope of this role includes overseeing a programme of investment into new housing supply on papakāinga, working in partnership with other government agencies to enable new approaches to public investment into Māori housing, and delivery of a high impact policy work programme to address barriers to Māori realising their housing aspirations.


The role reports to the Deputy Secretary Strategy, Finance and Performance, and forms part of the Strategy Finance and Performance (SFP) leadership team.

This role includes people leadership of two managers and the directorate includes 17 full time kaimahi.

Ko wai koe | About you
To achieve great outcomes in this role, you bring:

  • people leadership experience, ideally but not exclusive to the public service
- experience as a member of a senior leadership team
- experience representing your organisation externally in various forums, including working with hapū, iwi and Māori communities and organisations
- an understanding of the machinery of government, ideally cross-agency experience
- political awareness and comfort working within the political context
