The CSO Team designs and delivers end-to-end programmes that support individuals into employment within Downer (and our supply chain) and employees who already work within Downer to grow professionally and personally.

Our In-Work Success team that sits within the CSO is pivotal to supporting individuals into sustainable employment opportunities.

With our current In-Work Success (IWS) Manager having an opportunity to grow and move to another important position within the Downer whānau, we are looking for someone to take up this awesome opportunity.


As the In Work Success Manager, you will lead and manage the team that facilitate the provision of in-work transition and retention support services for employees recruited through our CSO programmes.

You will be the connector and have an amazing network to many of the support agencies that we utilise for our participants and employees.

As well as being the programme lead for two important IWS programmes Whanake ki te Ora and Te Ara Hou.


The Opportunity | Te Kōwhiringa


Your team's prime focus will be identifying and connecting with participants who may benefit from transition and in-work success support.

This connection piece is facilitated by the IWS Advisors delivering wellbeing modules face to face or remotely.

Then working with the individual and their manager, to design and deliver support, guidance and mentoring matched to individual needs.


The In-Work Success programme has two sub-programmes, Te Ara Hou and Whanake Ki te Ora, that provide more intensive support options.

These programmes are anchored on tikanga values and work to support individuals who have been identified as eligible for an employment opportunities, which they may not have been entitled to elsewhere.

This role is the first person that interacts with these participants to understand their histories, needs and where we can best support them.

You and your team essentially support these individuals to transition into employment, focusing on the whole of life, leading them to sustainable employment success.


We also have a separate stream of work, where one of your team look after our migrants and their whānau coming from offshore.

Providing them with a much-needed connection to all things that may need to settle into their roles and their new lives in Aotearoa.

Your team are based in both Ōtautahi and Tamaki Mākarau. Therefore, this role can be based from either location.

The ability to work across geographical locations, flexible hours, and use resources in a collaborative way to drive best practice and outcomes is essential.

This role is stacked with the 'feel good factor' but is not for the faint hearted.

You will have amazing leadership skills, be an awesome communicator, being able to balance what is best for the individual with what is best for the business.

You will need to be highly adaptable, be empathetic, all whilst upholding your upmost professionalism.

We'd truly value:

  • Demonstrable experience working with or within Government Departments, in particular the justice domains, such as Department of Corrections, Oranga Tamariki or Police
  • L7 Qualification or above in relevant people domain, (Human Resources, Organisational Development, Psychology, Social Work)
  • Have an established network of skilled people within the abovenamed organisations and support agencies you will need to collaborate with
  • Experience working within multiple leadership domains and understanding of large organisational structure
  • Clear demonstration of leadership behaviours that empower and enable all people
  • Proven track record in driving a culture that supports a positive approach to selfdevelopment and selfmanagement, encouraging and rewarding excellence
  • An understanding of the effectiveness of providing and coordinating support or personal development programmes
  • Demonstrated high level of Emotional Intelligence
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and use of initiative.
