Auckland CBD, New Zealand FRONDENT CONSTRUCTION LIMITED Full time

About Us

Frondent Construction Limited is a leading construction and property development company specialising in delivering high-quality residential and commercial projects across New Zealand. With a strong focus on financial discipline, project excellence, and innovation, we manage large-scale developments involving complex funding structures, multiple subcontractors, and significant capital flows. We are now seeking an experienced Finance & Commercial Manager to join our leadership team and oversee the company's overall financial performance and commercial operations.

About the Role

This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the company's financial health, stability, and sustainable growth. You will oversee all aspects of finance, accounting, and commercial management—from project budgeting and cost control to cash flow forecasting and stakeholder reporting. Working closely with the Managing Director and project teams, you will provide strategic insight into financial planning, contract management, and investment decisions to ensure long-term business success.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Financial Strategy and Planning

• Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with company and project objectives.

• Prepare short- and long-term financial forecasts, project profitability models, and cash-flow projections.

• Advise management on capital allocation, funding priorities, and risk mitigation measures.

  1. Budgeting and Cost Control

• Lead the annual budgeting process and establish cost-tracking systems across all projects.

• Monitor and analyse expenditure against approved budgets to maintain profitability.

• Work with project managers, engineers, and quantity surveyors to review cost variations, procurement, and supplier payments.

  1. Cash Flow and Treasury Management

• Oversee daily cash flow to ensure liquidity and funding availability for ongoing projects.

• Manage progress payments, retentions, and reconciliation of development loans.

• Maintain relationships with banks and investors to ensure timely drawdowns and effective use of capital.

  1. Financial Reporting and Compliance

• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and lender submissions.

• Ensure compliance with NZ GAAP, tax regulations, and statutory reporting obligations.

• Coordinate with auditors and external accountants to support audit and tax processes.

  1. Commercial and Contract Management

• Review and advise on financial aspects of project contracts, supplier agreements, and risk exposure.

• Negotiate payment terms and commercial conditions to protect company interests.

• Establish internal controls and governance frameworks to prevent cost overruns and financial mismanagement.

  1. Risk Management and Business Governance

• Identify financial and operational risks across projects and develop mitigation strategies.

• Implement approval processes for capital expenditure and major financial commitments.

• Provide executive management with insights to support strategic decision-making.

  1. Team Leadership and Collaboration

• Lead and mentor the finance and administration team to ensure accuracy, accountability, and efficiency.

• Collaborate with project delivery and procurement teams to align financial goals with operational performance.

• Promote a culture of transparency, performance, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.

• CA / CPA qualification preferred.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior finance or commercial management role within construction or property development.

• Proven experience managing project-based budgets, financing structures, and cash-flow systems.

• Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.

• Proficiency with financial modelling, ERP, and accounting software.

What We Offer

• A strategic leadership role in a dynamic, growing construction and development company.

• Exposure to major projects with complex financial and commercial operations.

• Supportive culture and opportunities for professional advancement.

• Competitive remuneration based on experience and qualifications.
