About Tautoko Mai

Tautoko Mai Sexual Harm Support is a for-purpose, non-profit organisation established in 2010 and governed by a Board of Trustees. The organisation delivers services across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions. Our purpose is to provide education and prevention to people, whanau and communities and to support all people impacted by sexual harm to live their best life through healing. This is the heart of what we do. We are striving to create a society that is free from sexual harm and violence, and we are supported by a highly skilled team of counsellors, social workers, psychologists, nurses and doctors who support our clients and their families.

About the Board

The Tautoko Mai Board of Trustees comprises leaders from the social and business sectors who are dedicated to supporting and promoting Tautoko Mai's vision and purpose. The Trustees steer the organisation to a sustainable future through sound ethical, legal, and financial management policies and ensure Tautoko Mai has adequate resources to advance its purpose.

Our Trustees champion the importance of exceptional board leadership and believe that every organisation needs a strong and effective board to fully realise its potential. In addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of a board member, our Trustees are active advocates and ambassadors supporting the ongoing need for sexual harm services in our communities.

Tautoko Mai is on an intentional journey in Te Ao Maori to influence and transform how we engage in our work within our communities to ensure authenticity in establishing a strong Kaupapa.

The Opportunity

Serving on Tautoko Mai's Board is an extraordinary opportunity for anyone passionate about governance in the social sector.

We are seeking exceptional people to join our Board, aiming to diversify and balance the experience and skillset of our existing team.

• We desire candidates with experience in the social sector who also have substantial governance experience.
• As we serve communities across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato, we'd love to hear from potential Trustees who live or have strong connections in these regions.
• Tautoko Mai supports diverse communities and values authentic representation. We're particularly interested in Board candidates who reflect the diversity of the people we serve.

Trustees are expected to have the financial acumen to read and understand Tautoko Mai's financial statements and to otherwise help the Board fulfil its fiduciary responsibilities.

Tautoko Mai holds monthly Board meetings, either in person or via Zoom, and would like a commitment from each Trustee to serve a minimum term of two years.

We're especially interested in candidates with:

• Representation of Māori/Pasifika/Asian/Immigrant Communities: We are staunch advocates of inclusivity and fostering robust connections within our diverse community. We are in search of individuals who can contribute to our ongoing development in this crucial area.
• Treasurer expertise: We are looking for a Chartered Accountant to join the Board to provide financial oversight. This role will require experience in accounting and finance to analyse statements, assess financial viability, contribute to financial planning, and support the Board's knowledge.
• Leadership experience: Trustees with governance leadership experience of a social sector organisation will benefit our organisation, e.g.: Chair, Vice Chair or Lead of committee.
