Systems Administrator.
About Us
Rumenaut is a start-up business focussed on development and commercialisation of ground-breaking intellectual property and technologies targeted at mitigating methane emissions and enhancing feed utilisation in ruminant animals. As we grow, we're looking for a hands-on Systems Administrator who's not just great with infrastructure but also willing to roll up their sleeves and get involved in our development and R&D initiatives.
If you like working in a fast-paced environment, enjoy variety in your day, and want to be part of something that's making a real-world impact—this might be the role for you.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll wear a few different hats, but here are the key parts of the role:
- Keep our systems running smoothly: Manage and maintain our servers, cloud instances, and internal IT tools.
- Lock it down: Help write, maintain, and enforce security policies. Keep our infrastructure secure and up to date.
- Support the team: Provide IT support when things go sideways (laptops, accounts, printers, etc.) and keep our small team productive.
- Handle the network stuff: Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, VPNs, and Wi-Fi at our offices and remote sites.
- Own our databases: Set up, monitor, and maintain key databases used across our platform and internal tools.
- Jump into development: Work closely with our dev and R&D teams to support our R&D initiatives.
- Document what matters: Keep our internal docs and processes up to date and easy to follow.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of experience in systems or network administration (or something similar)
- Solid understanding of security best practices and IT policy implementation
- Comfortable with both Linux and Windows environments
- Strong troubleshooting skills, especially around networking and infrastructure
- Experience managing relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL)
- Some scripting/automation chops (e.g., Bash, Python, or PowerShell)
- A self-starter who's comfortable working independently and figuring things out as you go
- Someone who enjoys learning and isn't afraid to step outside the traditional sysadmin lane
Bonus Points For
- Experience with virtualisation technologies (Proxmox) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Prior experience in a startup or small, fast-moving team
- Interest or background in agriculture, ag-tech, or environmental systems
- Any relevant certifications (Security+, AWS SysOps, etc.)
What You'll Get
- The chance to be part of a passionate, driven team building real solutions for agriculture
- A role with lots of autonomy and variety—you won't be doing the same thing every day
- Opportunities to work on R&D and experimental tech projects
- Flexible work environment
