Overview
NorthTec has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, community-minded engagement specialist to join our team as a School and Community Engagement Facilitator, based primarily at our Whangārei campus (with travel across Tai Tokerau as required).
This is a forward-facing, highly visible role, engaging directly with youth, schools, and community groups across the region. You'll be out and about, building new relationships, representing NorthTec at events, and ensuring our outreach is inclusive, culturally responsive, and impactful. Physical fitness is important, as the role involves event setup (e.g., lifting gazebos) and active participation in community activities.
To be successful, you'll be a confident communicator, passionate about education and equity, and able to connect with rangatahi and diverse communities. You'll bring strong organisational skills, a proactive approach, and a commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all engagement.
This is a full-time, permanent position. Flexibility to work outside standard hours and travel within the region is required.
Skills, Experience and Attributes
- Tertiary qualification in education, communications, community engagement, or a related field.
- 3–5 years' experience in outreach, youth engagement, or community relations.
- Experience working with schools/kura, rangatahi, and diverse communities.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in engagement contexts.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Confident public speaker and presenter.
- Proven ability to initiate and sustain regional partnerships.
- Strong organisational and event coordination skills.
- High level of cultural competence and emotional intelligence.
- Passion for education, equity, and community development.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Physically fit and able to lift equipment (e.g., gazebos) for events.
- Full NZ driver's licence required.
- Willingness to travel across Tai Tokerau and attend events outside standard business hours.
- Police vetting required (Children's Act core worker).
