About the Role
As a designated Medical Officer of Health / Public Health Medicine specialist, you will provide professional leadership for the delivery of public health/population health services across the region. This is a 12-month fixed term role based in Wellington.
In this role, you will undertake the statutory duties and responsibilities of a designated Medical Officer of Health including participating in an on-call roster. You will work in partnership with colleagues in Te Ikaroa National Public Health Service to share responsibility for the professional quality of public health work. You will provide public health medicine advice and guidance around the delivery of a cohesive, effective, and equitable health system to ensure better health outcomes for the population.

About you
You are a designated Medical Officer of Health. As a Public Health Medicine Specialist, you understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and are skilled in applying its principles effectively in your role. You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels, enhancing the quality and contributions of individuals and teams to achieve the organisations vision and goals. Driven and accountable, you are aware of your impact on others and are committed to continuously improving your leadership practice.
- Relevant graduate (and post-graduate) qualifications - Extensive clinical experience and expertise in public health medicine, with appropriate tertiary level professional qualification
- Hold a registered medical practitioner current Annual Practising Certificate and vocational registration as a specialist medical practitioner in a relevant speciality (FNZCPHM, FAFPHM) or similar
- Already designated as a Medical Officer of Health in New Zealand
- Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
- Proven knowledge of equity models and practice in professional field
- Understanding of the New Zealand health sector
- Current full driver's licence
