  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Work from any Health New Zealand office location nationwide

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.

We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

The Principal Analyst is a senior member of the Performance, Monitoring, and Reporting team, responsible for leading strategic data analysis to evaluate the performance of Hauora Māori services. Using insights from a wide range of quantitative and qualitative data sources, the role helps shape analytical frameworks that inform decision-making and improve service effectiveness for iwi, whānau, and hapori Māori. The Principal Analyst ensures high-quality data is delivered on time to meet planning and accountability requirements, and works closely with Principal Advisors, with overlapping responsibilities and shared deliverables across work programmes.

About the Team/Service/ Location

As the Hauora Māori Service of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) our core role is to ensure New Zealanders have better and more timely access to health care. The devolution of resources and decision making to the regions ensures those closest to service users and whānau are involved in decisions on how healthcare is delivered. We are committed to ensuring our operating model is responsive to the needs of Māori.

About you

You bring extensive experience in data analysis, performance monitoring, and reporting, with a proven ability to work with complex datasets and translate them into actionable insights. Your background working with Māori communities, iwi, or kaupapa Māori organisations enables you to engage meaningfully and collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, including Principal Advisors.

You will have:

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, particularly in developing and applying performance monitoring frameworks

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in data analysis tools and data visualisation platforms

  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in applying Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches

  • Demonstrated ability to work with complex datasets and lead complex projects, with experience in the health sector considered an advantage
