Te Whatu Ora Nelson Marlborough's Māori Health
and Vulnerable Populations Team, Te Waka Hauora, has a permanent full-time
position available for a Poumanaaki - Māori Cultural Support Worker, within the
Māori Health Service team. We are building a centre of excellence in regards to Māori Health and this role will support that journey.
The role will be diverse in nature as you will
provide cultural and social support to patients and whānau that are admitted to
our hospital. The role will also focus on supporting bicultural education of
our hospital staff and also support wider community based projects or
programmes being run in our communities by the Māori Health team.
Ko wai he kaitono tōtika? (Who is an appropriate applicant?)
While fluency in Te Reo is advantageous,
applicants with a basic understanding of Te Reo Māori will be considered, as we
can support development in the Māori language within our workplace. A
background in health, social services, or the like, would be desirable, but
again - is not essential.
Having an established understanding and network
of our local Māori communities would be an asset. The ability to work as
a member of a team will be essential. While we welcome applicants of all ages,
commitment to invest in our younger generations.
Te Whatu Ora staff must have completed their primary course of two NZ
approved COVID-19 vaccinations as they have direct contact with patients and
members of the public.
