Christians Against Poverty (CAP)
is seeking a

Advocacy Adviser
to cover 
parental leave
 for approximately 
8 months
. It is an exciting time to be part of the Client Services team as we deliver our refreshed Debt Help Services.

Reporting to the Advocacy Manager and working closely with our new Financial Mentoring team, you'll play a key role in supporting CAP clients facing irresponsible lending practices. You will be responsible for investigating complex issues with creditors and advocating for fair and sustainable solutions for clients.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Collaborate with the Financial Mentors to ensure client solutions relating to advocacy are delivered effectively
  • Initiate investigations and coordinate disputes for the Financial Mentoring Team
  • Provide recommendations and solutions to the Financial Mentoring team
  • Interpret and apply knowledge of consumer finance legislation to resolve potential irresponsible loans
  • Identify areas of significant harm and emerging trends

You'll also bring relevant experience for the role:

  • A strong personal alignment with the foundational Christian philosophy, organisational identity, culture, and values of CAP
  • 12+ months experience in a similar role
  • 1-2 years proven experience working in client-centred service delivery and/or with community-based social issues
  • Familiarity with financial institutions, systems and practices in Aotearoa
  • Familiarity with investigation, negotiation and advocacy methodologies and practices
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A strong growth, developmental and learning mindset, and mode of practice
