At Youthline CNI, Youth Workers provide support to individuals and groups of rangatahi (aged 10 – 24). We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where rangatahi can grow, develop life skills, and reach their full potential. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our Youth Development team based in Palmerston North, working in schools, and our PN office. As a Youth Worker at Youthline CNI, you will play a crucial role in providing guidance, mentorship (intentional peer support), and support to rangatahi and whānau, helping them navigate the challenges they face and empowering them to achieve their goals and connecting them with their communities.
This is a 12-month fixed-term role of up to 30 hrs per week, with continuation subject to available funding.
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake
You'll be part of a supportive and collaborative team made up of youth workers, social workers, and counsellors, working together to provide our services to rangatahi across the Central North Island region. In conjunction with the team and external stakeholders, you will be responsible for ensuring the service is providing client centred wrap-around care and is adaptive to the changing needs of the young people we support. You'll need to be confident in assessing and responding to the needs of tangata whaiora, and creating a safe, welcoming space that builds trust and encourages open, honest communication.
This role involves regular day travel across Central North Island areas like Rangitīkei, Horowhenua, Tararua, Palmerston North, and Manawatū, so flexibility and a willingness to be on the move are important.

- Passionate about working with rangatahi and knowledge of relevant Youth Development strategies and frameworks.
- Strong and effective inter-personal communication and relationship skills.
- The ability to work independently, as well as with a co-facilitator and part of a team.
- Strong administrative and time-management skills
- Public speaking/presenting skills.
- It is advantageous to have the ability to work in a culturally responsive manner that demonstrates a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including experience with Kaupapa Māori and Pacifica models of practice.
- Encouraging and accepting of diversity in individuals including gender, sexuality, ability, and culture.
- A strong sense of humour
- Clean Restricted or Full New Zealand driver's license
- Ability to pass necessary security, employment, and qualification checks.
- Hours as agreed to with Youthline CNI CEO. Primary work to be completed during normal business hours (0800 to 1700, Monday to Friday). Working hours can be negotiated with the Team Leader.
