At Pūmanawa we support young, talented youth aged 13 to 16 years old to re-engage with education and learning.
We are looking for an experienced and inspirational Youth Worker to join the team. You will support and mentor akonga placed into the Alternative Education Programme as well as support the daily physical fitness activities, including gym sessions.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
Physically fit and able to deliver the fitness component of our programme
Experience in engaging with and relating to vulnerable youth from diverse cultural backgrounds
Relevant qualification, ideally a teaching background (Teaching degree or diploma is desirable)
Experience with alternative education or community and youth work is a must
Experience in supporting individual learning or behaviour plans to help engagement in learning
Empathy, listening skills and ability to work with and support youth to develop independent study and life skills
Ability to support AE students to develop good study and life skills
To understand what it means to lead a strong and respectful Kaupapa in our Kura
Fully conversant with Kaupapa Māori as the foundation upon which our Kura's Tikanga and kawa is standing on
Understand NZQA Code of Practice 2021
Full driver's licence and competency in driving a van is also required.
DUTIES:
Key Tasks
To support the daily activities physical fitness component of the programme
To help run and deliver "Big Days Out" (Adventure therapy) once a week
To support students with learning and wider life skills
To mentor students around positive behaviours, attitudes and approaches to life
To uphold the kaupapa of Pūmanawa
To develop a culture that is focused on learning and life skills, and is characterised by respect, inclusion, empathy, collaboration and safety
To support academic staff to understand each learner's strengths, interests, needs, identities, languages, and cultures
To establish and maintain effective professional relationships focused on the learning and well-being of all students and wider stakeholders
To respond to learners in a knowledgeable and adaptive way to progress their learning at an appropriate depth and pace
To support students to re-engage in learning
To aid and assist in class tutoring for students who are completing NCEA level 1
To maintain resources, documentation, and records as necessary
To engage in professional development as required to maintain currency in mentoring and support
Under the Children's Act, the successful applicant will need to pass a Police Check to be considered for the role.
