About the role:
Due to significant growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Planner to join our team in Tauranga.
As our Senior Planner, you will lead the delivery of high-quality planning advice and technical expertise across diverse land development projects, foster strong client and stakeholder relationships, and play a pivotal role in expanding S&L's planning presence across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions.
Your responsibilities include:
- Providing high-quality planning, policy, and consenting advice across a wide range of land development projects.
- Preparing and managing land use and subdivision consent applications, including end-to-end consent processes with Councils and stakeholders.
- Supporting project scoping, feasibility assessments, and due diligence to inform development opportunities.
- Working closely with Project Managers to deliver planning and resource consent advice that meets project objectives and deadlines.
- Ensuring all planning activities align with industry standards, legislation, development codes, and New Zealand standards.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities, and internal teams to support successful project delivery.
As a successful candidate, you will have:
- A minimum of 6 years' experience in RMA planning, ideally gained in local government or private consultancy.
- A strong ability to provide practical solutions and planning advice, supported by excellent communication skills.
- The proven expertise in applying technical planning skills to business development opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience in building and managing strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- An in-depth understanding of the local planning framework in Waikato, particularly Hamilton City Council processes.
- The ability to self-manage and work efficiently.
- Bonus skills include experience leading multidisciplinary project teams, knowledge of plan change processes or policy development, and an interest in mentoring junior planners as the team grows.
