**Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role**
As a Senior Planner, you’ll join the Environmental Planning team, a team passionate about working together to shape our community and protect our environment. You’ll take a lead role in implementing Regional Council policies and plans for the Bay of Plenty.
The role is varied and interesting and in any one day you will:
- Manage complex plan changes and other projects through community and political decision-making processes.
- Provide specialist advice to ensure the Council meets its statutory requirements.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, communities, our Treaty partners, and customers, particularly our city and district councils.
- Write reports and recommendations on regional environmental planning issues.
- Provide leadership and guidance on natural and built environment planning as Toi Moana adapts to changing legislative frameworks.
- Research local, national, and international trends and issues in planning practice.
**Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience**
We’re looking for a team player with:
- Policy development, policy implementation and/or consent planning experience.
- Project management experience.
- Excellent analytical and research skills, particularly relating to planning and/or policy issues.
- Strong communication skills with an ability to connect and engage with people at all levels, including senior leaders, our Treaty partners, principal advisors, and elected members.
- A relevant Bachelors degree and proven experience in planning and/or environmental policy.
- Great initiative and attention to detail.
- Enthusiasm, flexibility, a growth mindset and a positive attitude.

Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council is responsible for land, air and water as well as public transport and economic development. A major focus of our work involves looking after the environment. We manage the effects of people's use of freshwater, land, air and coastal water. The Environmental Planning team is a close-knit team who work to develop, implement and review environmental plans, policies and strategies for the Bay of Plenty region. We provide specialist advice to ensure the Council meets its statutory requirements under the Resource Management Act 1991, national policy statements and national environmental standards. We work across Council and collaborate with our stakeholders.
